I am a mental health writer, author, advocate, and creative professional whose work bridges education, wellness, writing, and artistic expression. I am the author of the Mastering Borderline Personality Disorder and Mastering Bipolar Disorder workbooks—practical guides for mental health—and the forthcoming How to Support a Person Who Has a Mental Illness: A Guide for Everyone. My upcoming poetry and art collection, Iterations of the Boy is slated for publication in early 2026. My writing and art have appeared in twenty-one literary journals, featuring thirty-four published poems and artworks. My work reflects my passionate interest in mental health and wellness, social justice, ethics, suicide, and issues affecting marginalized communities.
My career encompasses clinical, academic, and advocacy expertise. With over 30 years of experience in mental health and education, I have designed innovative training programs for educational and social service environments. As the founder of ALT-PsyHealth, I create dynamic resources to promote mental health and wellness.
I have held leadership positions in programs for dually diagnosed adults and children. As a former psychiatric specialist in the U.S. Army, I later transitioned to academia, serving as a senior lecturer in English at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), where I received the Student Success Award for my dedication to learners.
As a creative and experienced document designer and curriculum developer, I create educational services with proven results in curriculum design and a deep understanding of pedagogy. My experience and education ensure my deliverables are engaging and impactful. I possess strong knowledge of instructional design principles, both online and in-person, fostering positive, interactive, and inclusive learning experiences.
I hold a BA in Philosophy, an MA in Professional Writing, and a Master’s in Liberal Studies. I have also completed advanced coursework in clinical mental health counseling. As a dynamic speaker, I have presented at national conferences on pedagogy, mental health and wellness, and the transformative role of creativity in healing. Beyond my advocacy, I am an accomplished artist and writer, merging my creative vision with a mission to foster resilience and understanding.
